Energy Efficient Back-UPS

I'm looking for a nice energy efficient battery backup surge protector. I think 8 ports in enough, I assume if I need more, I could always daisy chain? Lol.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

What do you want the UPS to provide backup power for, your desktop? If so, do you also want it to power your monitor and other accessories (if so, what)? How long do you need the UPS to last?

It'd need to power my desktop, monitor, and if possible, some consoles. I currently have an 8 port APC, but last time I used it, my light switch got turned off and it was on the circuit that got shut off, and my computer shut down with no backup time. Though I just remembered one side was battery and the other was surge, so.. I contacted them, and they're willing to either replace my battery or let me trade mine in and get a discount on a newer one.

Thanks.

Trade it in for a higher VA unit. With that many devices on it (and for longevity without power), you should get one of their 1500VA units. You can get them for around $200 if you look. You might be able to do better than that with the trade-in.

Also just so I understand, you only want one that gives you time to shut down the device properly right? You aren't looking for a UPS that will let you play games for another 30 minutes when the power is out are you?

Not at all, any amount of time is fine, it just needs to be enough to shut down everything. I'll test the APC I currently have, if it needs a new battery, I'll consider replacing the battery or getting another unit.

Thanks.

How old is your current unit? If its more than three years old, you should look into replacing the battery anyway. That will save you some money over getting a newer/larger unit.

What is the rating on your current unit as well? If you don't need a longer battery up-time, just get a unit that will give you 5+ min on your load. If your current unit provides that, look into just replacing the battery.
