Ensure you have your RAIDs through the same controller!

Im an idiot. I didn't realise until now (like tonight) that I have been running one of my RAIDs through both the Intel and the ASMedia controller.... DOH! Wasn't until i ran the Intel RST software that i found out... lets just say performance has increased significantly!!!

Easy to do if you understand that in the pic below, the two lefthand red SATA ports are ASMedia, and the two right of those are intel......

Good advice. An easy way to keep it straight is use the same color ports for each array.

I'm kind of surprised it let you span the array between controllers.

Any pics of benches since changed ? :D

So am I actually. It just goes to show you need to be careful when setting these things up (and read the manual - something we don't like to do! ;) )

Software arrays can be done across any controller, but the Asmedia controllers also support port duplications, and since they were originally software, it didn't matter. Im now using hardware arrays via the BIOS, dedicated to the Intel X79 controller. I don't have benches because I rarely do that, but I can tell you now, i don't need a bench to see the performance improvement.
