Eps12v - 975X based boards

The EPS12v is a newer 12v feed for dual cpu not dual cored cpu boards. The problems without the new 12v feed are outlined in the Tom's hardware article seen at http://graphics.tomshardware.com/20...than_one_intel_p4_extreme_platform/page8.html
In some ways it is on the idea of what was first seen with the AMD64 Socket 754/939 boards with the extra 12v feed now being needed and plugged in near the cpu socket itself.

Most motherboards will run OK with a regular ATX PSU (or with the adaptor cable), although there are some that will refuse to boot at all.
Either way, in virtually all cases mobo manufacturers strongly recommend that you use a proper EPS12 compliant PSU, and there's no way to guarantee stability without it. If you're buying a new board/PSU, I'd either get an EPS12 compliant PSU, or stick with a regular ATX mobo.
