I have a medical office that will give me a couple of PCs that I can use to learn more about PCs. I am a student in Networking and Computers. I need to wipe the Hard drives before I can have them. I am aware of utilities out there to wipe the drive. I was wondering if anyone knew of a utility that would actually wipe the drive where it was free from all data that could not be recovered under any circumstances.

Thanks. I have it on disk now. I read a review of DBAN and saw where someone booted with it and it erased internal drive, external drive, and USBs that were connected.
Can you use it to wipe just one drive? I would also like to use it to wipe external drives via USB cable if poosible, or do I need to connect it internally? When you boot from the CD, can you specify what drive to wipe? I have searched everywhere and cannot seem to find the answer. What to be certain before I use it. Don't want to wipe my internal drive. As far as the DR office is concerned, I can just wipe those puppies.
UPDATE: After many hours of searching, I found this. You can wipe external drives via USB. It allows you to specify which drive you want to wipe. Also, you will need to allot 12 to 13 hours to wipe the drive. If you google "How to use DBAN", you will find easy steps to follow. Wished I would have used this "How to use DBAN" when I started searching this morning.

If you want the most secured erase then use the tool called KILL DISK by using the erase method called GUTMANN.
It will make 35 passes of zeros on each sector together with the verification and after that there is just no way that any data can be recovered at all.
There is a DOS version of it and also a WINDOWS version and can be used to format any type of storage you want no matter how it's connected to the computer...
By the way...using the GUTMANN method is crazy lol...because it takes EXTREMELY FREAKING LONG to finish lol...and of course after that the data is lost FOREVER!
I would use that one ONLY if you know that some men in suits from Pentagon will come to check wether you have some of their secret data you should not have hahaha!
So if that's the case,use GUTMANN erase method from Kill Disk tool!
