Erasing drive using 9 passes- a question!

Hello everyone.:)

I'm going to wipe my entire harddrive with 9 passes, it's a pretty secure program which I'm going to use. I was wondering whether the 9 secure passes would be enough to stop someone who could spend up £10,000 and three months from even recovering tiny snippets of the data?

I would be grateful for any replies, I'm a little anxious...

7 passes is higher than what the National Security Agency uses, (or Scotland Yard over there). So 9 passes should be enough.

Hehe, New Scotland Yard wouldn't have a clue how to get round just 2 passes LOL. MI5 would have better luck, but no, you should be fine with 9. What exactly have you got on it that you don't want people to find...? ;)

I do all my banking and financial stuff online, I do worry quite a bit because whilst I know it's unlikely that anyone that works near/with me could get at it there's still a possibility.

As for what diroga said, that's your opinion. I don't understand why people always jump to conclusions about these things, YES, there are some weirdos out there, but just because someone asks about secure data deletion doesn't mean they're one of them. The reasons are usually perfectly innocent.

Thanks for the replies... :)
