Help! i just purchased a USB keyboard. When i plug it into my computer, windows says "USB device not recognised". It came with aparently its driver on a floppy disk and so i installed them.

After install had to resart. Keyboard still wont work, no power to it at all eg. none of its lights are on. All i have now is a system tray icon "multikeyboard driver" not that it does anything.

I cant tell what brand the K/B is as it has nothing writen on it. The box it came in has the brand "Rock" on it but i cant find anything about them. And the drivers that came with it apparently belong to Uppertech..who ever they are..

So what am i to do? i cant find relivant drivers on the internet any where! is there some generic driver i could use?

Thanks for any help you can give...

usually a usb keyboard doesnt require a driver or software installed unless you plan on using the multimedia buttons on keyboard. Do you have any other usb devices being used on your computer and have no problems with them? if you don't have any other usb devices try uninstalling the usb ports in device manager and rebooting and let windows recognize them again to see if the driver is corrupted. plug the keyboard back in and see if it works then.

Nope, that didnt work. Still an unrecognise device...On all my computers. Any other suggestions?

Dodgy keyboard. If it wont even work on other computers you have, I could bet all my money it's the keyboard. Get a refund, go buy a different one, where you atleast know the company ;)

Actually, most USB devices do require some sort of driver in order for them to work completely properly. You may get SOME performance out of it without the specified drivers, but definitely not the fully advertised/expected results...

so how would i go about getting a driver that would make my keyboard ATLEAST be able to be used for typing?

Have you tried it on a friends computer? it if don't work there, then its a defective keyboard.

There is probably just a hardware problem with the keyboard, I would take it back if I was you. I have had the same problem before. I bought this cool looking no-name keyboard with backlights for $15 and it just kind of stopped working after a few days. Get a new keyboard and in the meantime go to Start->Programs-> Accessories-> Accessability-> On Screen Keyboard (if you're using windows).
