error again APACHE

apache does not provide enough support but i manage to understand why my page ended up like that. actually my index was in a .htm format not .html. i put a template of .htm in my root and it still showed like that. i removed and put a .html template and it work. really odd though why isn't apache able to support .htm files.
i also checked the log files and the last error i got was "unable to find file index.html ".
now i will start making pages in html format.
