error code 222

Hey! i need to know a way to fix an error code 222... and possibly 262.
ill explain what happens...
my hard drive died, so we had to get a new one... but when we try to use the recovery disk, it either gets 5% into recovery and gets an error code 222...
or it goes up to 12-13% and gets error code 262...
running a Sony Vaio with XP home edition.

The new drive might be bad as well, try running a diagnostic on it by downloading the drive manufacturers disk diagnostic utility.

1. The motherboard of your laptop (perhaps the hard drive controller) could be at fault.
2. New drive could be broken.
3. New drive could be incompatible with your laptop.

Could you tell us the name/serial number of both the old and new hard drive?
