error i386/ntkrnlmp.exe when trying to install windows

i get this
i386/ntkrnlmp.exe
I looked at the microsoft website and tried the solutions, it doesn't work...

also I do not have a floppy drive on my laptop, so i cannot do the ASR, is there a work-around?
 
your notebook, if it is the one in the sig, is ok, just on the bases of generic processor speed and the ram is ok. I would bump it up to 256m. There are 2 parts of the install. The text mode and GUI or graphics. So at what part do you get the error ? Is this a burnt copy of xp or a retail version ? did you try cleaning the bottom of the cd, especially finger prints,,,if this is a cdrom read prob.
