Error Loading OS???

This problem has been bugging me for some time now and I want to try to fix it properly and I am hoping there is someone out there who knows or has experienced this problem who can help.

Most times my computer will work normally without any problems but every now and then, it will freeze and upon a restart I get the "error loading OS" message.

same thing applies for when I get my computer out of standby - most times it works normally but sometimes it just gives me a black screen and then gives me the same error when I restart.

now the strange thing is sometimes all I have to do is pull out the cables attached to my HD and reattach them and it works normally again but sometimes it doesnt work straight away and I just keep repeating until it does work.

any help would be great thanks.

If you are using flat ribbon cables that are over a year old you are probably seeing an intermittency there. The older style cables can goof at any time. That was one reason I originally looked into round cables. The best results with ide cables to date are the Antec Cobra cables seen at http://www.dvhardware.net/modules.php?name=Reviews&rop=showcontent&id=31

With the multi OSing done here often and moving drives between cases I've seen that error come up often until swapping the type of cable used.

I've used different brands of round cables to see headaches with some of them until going with the Antec line. A name like PC Toys blue colored cheap vinyl covering is one example. This was back when they first started showing up in retail outlets as well seen at online vendors. I'm already on the third built with the same set of Antecs at this point with no complaints.
