greetings,

i acquired a computer from a local business that was switching over to mac. it is a dell +/- 3.06ghz, 1g ram, 120hd, win xp pro, adobe acrobat writer installed (if that makes any difference).

when the computer boots up i get a message of "ACROBAT ASSISTANT.INK.DISABLED" and another about a gamma loader for same. i have removed adobe acrobat and reinstalled same. there is also nothing wrong with my video display which, by the word "gamma" i associate with "video".

i have searched on the net for info for the ".ink" extension and come up with nothing. any help anyone can give will be helpfull...thanks again!

Go to start>run>type msconfig click on the startup tab and look for something adobe related uncheck and restart...

....well, i think that did it!..thanks!.although i don't know why it would have t be turned of in msconfig. ....in any of my other computers, all is "on"...thanks again .

(i have another problem about the log on screen); after it boots up, i get a screen that says press ctrl-alt-del to continue....from there it goes to the password request box and i hit ok w/o applying a password and all is well.

i have looked in "users" in control panel and i see no way of deleting the box so that it just simply starts windows......theer is a user as an operator and admin as an operator......any advice?

..well, 1st, there was no advances tab anywhere in "user accounts" whatsoever......i hit change the way users log on/off and rebooted......now, i have lost 95% of all my desktop icons and the customizations i had (classic view) in the start menue......

wow thats weird

Mail man my guess is since you got this second hand the previous user had something adobe related that never fully uninstalled nad its trying to load it at startup. Can you take a screen shot and post it here for us to see what all you have in msconfig? P.S turning it off in msconfig only speeds up startup and when you need it it will start again this is a common thing i have like 30 things unchecked in my startup..

i have since my last posting resolved the issue through msconfig and better leave it the way it is. i have activated adome writer pro (vers 6) a few times since then w/o issue. now the only issue is that i cannot get rid of that darn ctrl-alt-del issue (as previously mentioned).....( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308226 )

sorry about the wait heres how you do it go to start=> run=> type in "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes) and then go to the advanced tab and uncheck the box that says "require users to press ctrl+alt+del to logon" hope that works :D
