error message on laptop when I boot up

Hello,
I have an HP 15 laptop and it is about four years old. lately two things have started happening.
1. after I turn on my laptop and get to my desktop screen an error box pops on with the message "Shell:App Folder\Microsoft Command Palette_8wekyb3d8bwe!app and below that it says "class not registered" Could someone please tell me what that means.

also I have an external monitor and just recently while I am watching a you tube video(it may happen other times) the screen will all of a sudden go black. so i googled it and was told reinstall the graphics driver(I assume on my laptop) This has happened twice. I can not afford a new laptop. am I going to have just keep uninstalling and reinstalling the grahphics driver? Please help. Thanks so much!

First of all, download and run malwarebytes and scan your system for malware. Let it quarantine anything it finds. Then report back.

Try using a different web browser. That link works fine for me. But I've read through that thread and it seems it related to the program power toys which means you most likely have an old version installed so you would have to uninstall it and then download and install the latest version. And you probably get that message at bootup because its set to run at bootup. If you don't use power toys just uninstall it totally.

Hi,
ty for answering the question regarding my error message. I still have the issue with my external monitor blacking out.
any remedies for that? without having to buy a new laptop, uninstalling and reinstalling the graphics driver. any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I tend to watch a lot of you tube videos and that is when my external monitor decides to black out on me. :( Thanks.

How do you have the external monitor connected? Are you downloading the latest version of the graphics chip? If you go into the device manager and expand display adapters and then right click on the item in there and click on properties and then click on the driver tab, what does it show for driver date? Also what does it list for video hardware?

my external monitor is connected via the hdmi cable it came with.

thanks so much for your help in this. its driving me crazy :)

Go back into device manager and expand processors entry then tell me what is listed there.

Thanks so much for your help! I downloaded and installed the newer drive. it seems to have fixed the issue. I did not realize the driver I had was the cause because it was so old. Thanks again.
