Error message

Trying to install the software which came with my scanner. When the disc is loaded the following error message appears "C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32/AUTOEXEC.NT. THE SYSTEM FILE IS NOT SUITABLE FOR RUNNING MS-DOS AND MICROSOFT WINDOWS APPLICATION."
I am using Windows XP Home Edition.Can anyone help please.
