Everytime i boot windows and log in i get this error message:

I know its something to do with ATI's Catalyst Utility, but i dunno what to do, I cant find anywere to update the untility even dell doesn't offer the update.

Any Suggestions?

Use the ATI uninstall tool found at the new ATI.AMD support site to remove the current version which is? Your sig shows two cards, one for laptop, one for desktop? XP or Vista? Most likely XP but checking. The latest Catalyst 7.3 for the Radeon mobility line is found at http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/xp/mobility-xp.html for both 32but versions of XP.

i cant find the uninstall tool, can you possibly post a link. I googled it and find a link for the life of me.

EDit I got that but when i install from the link you provided i get this error:

The next step without the original software/driver disk for the card that will have the uninstall tool there is to go to the add/remove programs section in control panel and select the ATI listing there. Once that is done go into the device manager by simply right clicking on the MyComputer icon seen on the desktop and choosing the "hardware devices" button to enter the DM there. Once that screen comes up go to the display adapters item and click on the "+" on the left to see that open upto the XP version of what is seen here in the screen capture.

Although this is from Vista you still have a visual reference for choosing the uninstall option when right clicking on usually two items found with ATI. This is also the method for NVidia drivers as well. Once you have this done and restart the system you are then ready to install either the latest or best suited update for your model card.

You are my hero.

Edit: That didnt work.. I cant isntall the drivers.

Edit agian: i had to install the drivers from dells update area on their website. It still gives me the error when i boot which is a little odd, but when i try and install newer verions of the software it doesnt let me (it gives me an error that says that the software isnt compatible with my hardware)

Edit Edit again: I found the update on ATI's support site, but it says that i need to install a stardard VGA driver on my laptop before i can install the driver for the GPU..?

any other help would be nice.

Which version of Windows are you running? The first link there is the 7.3 for XP. If you are running Vista you will need the Catalyst 7.2 for the Mobility-Radeon seen at http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/vista32/previous/common/common-cat72-vista32.html

When you go to the ATI support site the place to stop first is at http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html As soon as you select the version of Windows you are running then the type of card like Mobility-Radeon is selected in the next column. The last column is for the X1400 or other series chosen from the list there. That will take you to the download page.

With XP you also have the option to select an older version of the catalyst if you have problems with the 7.3. You would look for the "previous softwares and drivers" link on one of the pages. That can be a nuisance to find at times however. The original ATI support was a little easier there. :P

I have XP MCE. And there is no x1400 driver listed on ATIs website.

Edit: Dell isnt supported in with those drivers.. or the validication tool:

Edit Agian:
OK so i installed the Video Card drivers only, not the catalyst software, will this impact my GPU/Systems preformance in games and watching videos, ect..?

On many older systems people ran into problems when the Catalyst Control Center was running at the same time. The quick fix there was to shut theat down or disable it from loading up along with Windows. The Catalyst is mainly for color correction, managing multiple displays by extending from one to another, and setting screen resolutions.

The last can easily be done with the display setting in the control panel or right clicking on the desktop. The drivers themselves are the mandatory item not the catalyst. You would certainly need those for playing games and for cideo playback. With the catalyst removed you may see some small gain in gaming performance while not seeing any difference in video playback.

i only installed the video card drivers, then went and got omega drivers(not sure if i can talk about those on here)

In other words you went after generic drivers or an older set from a 3rd party site. One 3rd party site where you can often find older ATI catalysts and drivers for the different versions of Windows as well as Radeon series is found at http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?id=18

A free scan of your system is offered for matching up the best drivers for your system at http://driveragent.com/?PHPSESSID=a0a904778e9952936221d8f1ee338a1f The problem there is you have to sign up to join something? no thanks!

right. Thanks for the help, you have no clue how much i appreciate it!

Let me know how it goes with the driver locator there. I couldn't even find a reference at the 3dguru site for the X1400 series just desktop models for ATI and NVidia. If you do get a download that works out well make sure to backup the drivers somewhere safe even burn them to a cd-r since those seem a little hard to find.
