Error when trying to install new hard drive

I bought a new hard drive and am trying to reinstall windows xp (my other hard drive crashed and it was time for a upgrade). I have a 5 year old HP pavilon Motherboard. I but the Windows CD in, select boot from CD, and then a Warning Message comes up that says "You must remove the HP personal Meida Drive or any other external media drive from the system before attempting system recovery. Data will be erased if the external drive is left in the system. Remove any such device and press any key to continue." This is not a fancy computer. Only the hard drive, CD drive, and video card are plugged in. In my ten years of computing this is the first time I am really stumped. Thanks for any help.

See the thing in the bay under the bottom CD drive... the third bay from the top? You don't have anything like that do you? That's an HP personal media drive.

Also, are you using the Windows XP CD that came with the machine, or a different one?

Hard Drive Issues

Thanks for the post. I dont have anything in that bay. I am using a borrowed XP CD that came with my friends Gateway computer. I bought the XP upgrade at Staples about 2 years ago and cant find the CD. I looked in the stores and cant find XP because Vista is out. My compuer will not support vista so I am kind of stuck. My friend told me he school sell the XP upgrade CD but since I have a new hard drive I am not sure if that will work.

That's not just a general warning is it? Perhaps something they have on any restore disk made for HPs during that era? To me that almost sounds generic, as if there should be a "Press any key" type deal somewhere to continue the reocovery...
