I have a family history disk cd, but there are lots of errors on it. I installed it on my comp but can't write in it to correct the errors. Is there some soft ware that I can use to convert it so I can erase and rewrite to fix the errors? I don't want to rewrite the whole thing to fix the errors.
Thank You;

By errors, do you mean there are inaccuracies in the family history (history errors) or data is missing / broken (computer errors)? Either way, you will probably need to make a new disc. If it's a regular CD (CD-R), then you can't make any changes to that CD ever again. A rewritable CD (CD-RW) can be rewritten, but unless it was formatted with a file system first (very unlikely) then you can only rewrite it if you erase it first. That would cause you to lose everything on the CD, so that option wouldn't work anyway. You will likely need to make another copy with all the changes you want.

By the way, are you referring to a computer program on the CD or just family history data on the CD?

It's wrong info(names, dates ect). Its like a book on cd. It's not on a computer family tree program. I don't know if I could put it on some family tree program without typing every word or not.

What do you mean by installed it on computer? Do you mean you just copied it over or that you ran some sort of installer? Since it's just incorrect data we're dealing with here, I think it might be possible to fix it. You will have to write the changes back to a CD when finished, but CDs are cheap and they are not difficult to write to.

We'll need more information about how it's stored on the computer. Is it all in one big file? What type of file is it? (Is it something unusual or just a Word .doc, etc)? What do you mean by a "book" - that it looks like a book, acts like a book, or something else?
