I bought a new 500 pound laptop and now get IE errors,

... for example, i go to ebay, click sell and the 2 radio buttons are not there, also the search box to the left of the 'search' button located in top right hand crner is missing and it says error in the bottom left corner of the browser.

Any ideas of how to solve this or anybody else experienced it ?

Well, lets start by outlining that nobody should be using IE anymore, its dying very slowly, FireFox is now the new breed.

Faster
More Secure
Easier to manage
Not to mention free(not saying that IEs not free but its always a bonus)

Although you should 100% swith to Firefox, the problem you are having could well relate to spyware and malware/viruses. do full system scans on prgrams like AdAware SE Personal and AVG antivirus if you dont have any of your own installed already.

I have AVG, I instaleld it as soon as I got my laptop a coup le of days ago, my network connection is firewalled.
I will install the AdWare detector, I have the Sponsored version of BearShare, could that be it ? As that occasionally displays advertisments and sometiems opens a web address in IE.

If I re-install FireFox, do you think the same problem will occur ?

firefox is totally different to IE (although it doesn't look like it), and as dragon said everyone should be using it, it runs a completely different html rendering system compared to ie, and isn't affected by viruses/spyware etc. so it will almost definately solver your problems. if not then well, theres something seriously wrong

NO. Firefox is not the solution to EVERY internet browser problem even though it is being used more often now.

your issue is probably something wrong with IE itself internally, if you want to try and fix it, you can try this. http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

firefox will probably solve your problem also but you will most likely still need IE because some pages will not show up right on firefox, or show up differently.

so you can try to fix it now or fix it later.

Yeah, everyone thinks IE is dead. I still use it and I'm an IT guy. I chose to use it because Microsoft is a giant. If there's a bug in the system, microsoft will send out a patch almost instantly. And of course, an uptodate internet security wouldn't hurt either. I use Trend Micro's PC-cillin.

The one thing I like about FireFox is that has a built in RSS reader...

But this Firefox "fanboyism" is getting ridiculous. computerhakk is right, Firefox is not the solution to every internet problem.

...It seems like almost every time a new thread is created about some internet problem the first thing some responds with is "GET FIREFOX!" and then it turns out the problem would have still occured with firefox as the default browser...
