Errors

I just finished building a computer recently, and it went prett well. although it iruns fine, theres a couple things im still a little confesd about. when i turn it on, the first dell page shows up (asking me if i would like to enter bios or the boot menu). Then, after about 20 seconds, it passes this page and enters a command prompt-like page. here, i get the errors:

Primary drive 1 not found
Alert! Previous fan failure.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility.

If I press F1, the computer boots off the primary master, the hdd, into XP with no problems. I would really like to find a way to get rid of these errors for a smooth boot up, so if anyone had any advice, that would be awesome.

Hmmmm maybe try taking the CMOS battery out for 30 seconds and replcae it, and make sure your BIOS is booting form your HDD first not a cd drive or floppy

Maybe your CPU fan is dying? Stuck?

You drive is dying too?

CMOS reset seems to be most reasonable.

well, i dont really have a cpu fan right now :o, but i do have a fan running off the power supply blowing across the heatsinc. i was thinking about shorting out the fan port or something like that to remove that error :).

but not recognizing the primary master 11. hmm. to restart the bios/cmos, not only do i have to take out the battery, but i have to play with the jumpers, dont i?

I would seriously recommend getting an CPU fan... Even thought it may not be an problem, it could develop into an problem into the future. Try setting your HDD to Cable Select and booting it up again.

Have you reset your CMOS yet?
