Esata and Sata - esata bracket

Just a question I found a solution to my HDD issue and I was curious of this would work.

I want to mod this piece into a 2.5 front panel so I can boot my PC down...hook up say either a internal or external HDD to it then boot it up. I dunno if this will work while the PC is powered on though?

1. Will this work
2. Speeds going to be better then USB speeds?
3. Plug and play or will I need to power down my system? I could check but I dunno if this could harm my HDD.

It came with my motherboard Came with molex to sata adapter and a esata to sata cable.

Confirm if that's eSATA or standard SATA. My Asus came with something very similar to that but it's got standard SATA plugs on it. Either would work just fine but you might need an eSATA to SATA cable.

1. That's what it's there for
2. It's directly connected to SATA, thus you will receive SATA speeds (so HECK YES!)
3. SATA is supposed to be hot swapable. However, to be safe, I would still power the system down.

Cool deal......I am not exactly doing what they wanted it used for though ^-^ It is Esata and I have a eSATA to SATA connector (though they only gave me one for 2 ports)

Here is the semi-finished result. Yet to install it yet but I plan to paint the screws black just to get them out of the way. Not professional but semi-professional as my grandfather says it.




Used a combo pack I picked up at Lowes of 4-40x1/2 round/nut then found some old washers so I could secure it without being permanent if I wanted to change it later. Then reused the rubber mat that came with my Antec 900 to hide the gap.
Looks good enough in the end for me.....now I just need to decide if I want external or internal for my first 1TB drive. What I find funny here is when I first saw it I said "this is the most useless thing I have ever seen in a motherboard box".

Added a better picture...I also redid the design in the back which included putting a nut under each of the screws...then putting over the metal of the hardware and then the washers/nuts to give it a 100% secure fit and to ensure if it ever wants to bend it has support so it wont.
