Ethernet Cable

At what length does the signal starts to degenerate on a Ethernet Cable?

My wireless constantly drops when I am downloading, so I am looking for a Ethernet cable that is long enough to run from the second floor to the first.

I think I might need a 50 feet cable. Will the signal be ok going from one end to the other without eat that length?

If a 50 feet cable is fine, how about 75 or 100 feet?

i think its 325 feet for cat5. i have 100ft of cat6 going to my room, because it was only like $3 more than cat5, and it is blazing fast, way faster than wireless with an extremely low ping.

i'd reccomend overstock.com for buying tho, they have good prices

Thanks

Just order a 100 feet cable for 14 dollars shipped. Can't wait to disconnect the wireless...

If you're using a laptop, or want to save the hassle of running 2 stories of cable try a wifi booster at the midway point, really only a few bucks more than buying cable, sets up in minutes and if it doesn't work for you return it and run cable!

As other's said, Cat5 is rated at 100 meters, but you can generally go a decent amount over that without a problem.
