Ethernet lights

I'm fixing a hp computer and can't get the Internet to work. I notice that the connector lights that are on the connector where u plug the Ethernet wire in do not light up. They only light up for two seconds when the computer is turned on but then they shut off. The dsl box shows connection but theN those two lights that are orange and green shut off on the back of the computer. What do I do??? Thanks

it worked before i recovered the computer (start from the beginning)

You most likely need to install the ethernet drivers and others. Look in device manager for hardware that needs drivers.
