ethernet port not working

hey again, another motherboard problem. lets hope you can help me again john :) but anyways, my ethernet port isnt working D: it was working about an hour before that, and then when i turned my computer back on, i noticed that the ethernet port wasnt lighting up like its supposed to. didnt think much of it, but then when i got into windows, it showed i didnt have internet. i do have to say that i had 2 usb ports underneath it and they dont work either. but one thing i noticed is that all the other ports on the I/O board works fine. another thing is that when i go into device manager, under unknown devices, i see a "universal serial bus (usb) controller" that wasnt there before. i'm guessing that thats the ethernet port. now this is where i need help, how can i tell if its shorted out, or if it's the drivers, and how can i install those drivers? any advice will help.

thanx in advance- Karma Charger

That device in device manager is your usb ports. What motherboard do you have? As far as your ethernet cable goes, try a different cable, and try using the same cable with a different pc to make sure it works. We need to determine whether its cable, pc, modem/router.

yeah try the cable on another computer and try another cable. They're pretty cheap. Try rebooting too you said that once when you turned it on it didn't work, try rebooting again.

i did restart my computer. it's a msi 870a-g54. i just tried the Ethernet cord on my laptop, works fine. same modem and cord too. im going to try and take the mobo out of the case as it may be interfering like you told me before john.

What operating system are you using? Try safe mode with networking and see if you can get online.
