ethernet trouble

Hi I'm new here and am def not an expert on computers so excuse me for any dumb statements. My problem is that about a week ago my internet at my apartment stopped working. I have cable 3mg internet and I use a wireless router. At first, I thought it was just a router issue because it says the I excellent reception from my network but nothing happens when i try to get on the internet(and the router might need to be replaced anyways, but thats another problem) so I tried to connect directly to the modem via an ethernet cord and it said I had "Low or now connectivity", so i figured the modem was dead and got it replaced by the cable provider. Then I came home and connected the modem and I have the same problem with no connectivity so I tried my girlfriends computer and connected directly to the modem with the ethernet cord and it works fine. So what could be wrong?

going back to the router, since my girl's computer worked, i decided to reset the network and reset the router. After finishing the install I again tryed to connect to the internet wirelessly with her computer and my computer and it didnt work. (I can connect to other wireless networks no problem) So do yall think its a router problem or what?

Sounds like the router isn't setup/working properly but if your computer didn't work when conencted directly to the modem there's something wrong there too, especially if it didn't work with the new one and the other computer did.

yes I am using windows xp, but my girlfriends computer is also using xp and her computer will connect directly to the modem and work and mine won't. I read the articles and have already tried doing them. why would my computer not work and hers does? Is there possibly some setting I have wrong?
