There is something that I don't understand with my Dell Inspiron 8200. It has a Masushita CDRW/DVD UJDA740 and I have been using it recently to convert music to AAC for my iPod with iTunes. Unfortunately, after 2 or 3 cds, the drive refuses to recognize any cd (music, data, etc) and system information says that the drive is empty regardless of what disc I have inserted. The discs that I am using have worked on numerous other occasions, except after ripping some music.

What is the problem?

check that all the cables are in tight, i mite be that after the spinning it loosened a cable at the back

Thanks, but this is in my laptop and I am hesitatent to take it apart to check the connections. As well, this is not the first time this has happened, and usually after rebooting the following day, all is well.

Ah goddamn laptops. Is the drive set with some stupid power saving features?
