Eureka, GTX 460s in SLI

I been looking at GPUs for my next build. I really wanted a GTX 480, but they just run too hot for my taste. I was about to decide on a 5870 when I saw this article. It seems that a pair of GTX 460 in SLI is a very powerful $400 combination that easily outperforms a single 5870 at about the same price, but also outperforms a 5970 in many games. Now I wouldn't normally go with a dual GPU configuration right off the bat, but this combination looks very tempting.

Tell me how it turns out! I'm planning the same thing... I like this because I can get one now and wait for a while (price may possibly lower?) to get my 2nd.

If you are ok with 2 GPU's the 460 1g is a compelling buy. It's real advatage is how well it scales in SLI. As a single card it is not a slam dunk for the top end but great for it's price.

People made the same argument for 2 5770's but then sold them for 1 strong card. I do hear SLI is better than CF though. I am waiting for nvidia to come out with 480 performance with 460 heat. At least now I think they can, that would be awesom.

it does pack a punch but it is pretty limited on upgradability. although with the punch they pack they wouldn't need upgrading for a long time... maybe wait until nvidia comes out with a dual gpu fermi card.
