Anyone familiar with EVE-Online? It looks kinda cool, although I don't really like subscription based gaming. I don't play enough to justify the costs. Anyway, has anyone played this game and would you recommend it?

Here's some links: Homepage, Wikipedia, IGN

Try the 30 Day trial I liked it after that and subscribed for 2 months. Then I was like why the hell am I doing this.

The problem with it is if you take away all the items you can buy in the game theirs not really much to it. The social element is not there, nobody talks and to make it worse you are charged eve credits for talking and have to pay extra subscription for voice. The knowledge and complicated bit comes from knowing what to buy in the game and thats about it. Manufacturing is usless without years worth of skills.

Player vrs player action is suicide till you have years worth of skills and you still wont be able to kill them in years as they would of advanced more years of skills.

I was sat here watching my ship mine for hours only having to think or click on screen a few times every 10 Min's. I started to wonder why the hell am I paying £10 a month to do a very dull agency type job but in space???? I mine so i can afford to buy a larger mining ship so I can mine for longer??????????

I might go back to it and try being in a corp but good corps wont let you join unless you been mining in eve for two years already or doing the boring simple missions.

EVE is a great idea but it should be more involved and fun when doing things maybe the ships should have manual controll like in X3 or mining should involve deploying a digger arm and using digging movement controls instead of pressing one button and waiting.

If you want a space game thats all about making money, buying, expanding and combat try X3 it has far more things to do and far more fun.

It's fun because it's very customizable, very realistic, and the universe is huge in game but the game play is very slow, the options are complicated and complex, and probably my biggest pet-peeve was that you had to accept and complete quests within a certain amount of time or else your faction reputation would go down.

And like ^ said, absolutely no communication between players.

There is SOME communication with the players. When I tried the 13 day trial (I took a few screens), there was a chat box to talk to those in your universe, different corps, etc etc.

The game is more for those who are interested in a more realistically based timed game with a sci-fi addition to it.

The first two summed up most of it. Basically the game it personally opinion.

All I know is that with the new updates to make the ships look nice and everything else, my computer can't handle most of it.
Piece of junk.

I play it occasionally. How much communication/in game chat/whatever you want to call it will vary with what corporation/alliance you join. I will say being industrial in secure space in Eve is more boring then anything you could possibly imagine. Mining in low security or 0 is a bit harder, there are NPCs that can kill you and players will come around and try and kill you.

In 1v1 an older character should beat you everytime, but it's fairly easy to get a gang of people going. All you need is a small group of frigates and you should be able to take out any cruiser.

I don't know if I would recommend it or not. I like it but I know a bunch of people who play and we occasionally go around and blow stuff up. If you like that look around for a corporation that has 0.0 access. Any good one will help you get started and teach you the mechanics of the game.

i was with a group of guys and we were using teamspeak, so communication was great as all of us with our fleet raided a pirate colony hahaha it was great untill my stupid subscription came up. also the newest updates make the game look brilliant.

pretty much once you get a group of guys together to do this with the game is a whole lot of fun.

I played that trial ages ago, Low system requirements was good to, But i find it more for the gamer who is smart and enjoys a slow paced game. And None of the good names are tacken, i was captain spok :P bUt the server downtime everyday is SOOOOO annoying!!! and its not available in australia. So if you want to play it here, you have to buy time cards of ebay, lames...

As for the game upgrades (you can always go back to the lesser of the two, like I had to) here are some of the ships to get the main example out.

Pardon the shots... my computer was being a retard. I had it windowed so I could still do other things while mining and such. But, when I had the better upgraded detailing on, the game just blended in with the background for some reason. Also didn't view properly once outside of the dock. Stupid computer.

Thanks for the feedback! :D

It looks really awesome, but it looks like you have to spend hours working on menial tasks. I don't really have time for that, but I'll give it a shot. The idea of a whole universe to explore is very appealing.

it was worth it to me lol. and since the graphics were maxed on full AA and AF when i played, on an X800GTO and an AMD 3400, im sure your system wont have any problems hahaha

lmao. I'm gonna download/install later on today. The graphics look pretty awesome. :D

If you have DirectX9 hardware you can get the Premium content, it looks great :D

You don't have to mine, lots of people start there because it's easy to do and fairly safe. I find it extremely boring. You don't need to have a super combat character to be good at it, you just need a group of people to fly with.
