a 4 pin connector just shorted out on my case. ever happen to you? just happend to me. scared the utter crap ouy t of me, i heard/saw a zap and my comp shut off, just as i was closing the door to case. i knew what shorted it.

could this damage anything in my pc? it appears to be working finely now, though my hard drive is still making funny noises..

When going to work on any case or electrical appliance the power is generally disconnected when that is done by the "novice". Sorry only experienced persons should ever toach live equipment while in operation. At this point the fact that the system even starts up can allow some sweat to wiped off of the forehead there! But without having a case in front of you or simply seeing what shorted the possible damage is still an "unknown" at this time.

yeah, i just had to move a wire because it was getting into a fan. bwe, it seems to be working. maybe i'm just lucky..

Hopefully you only saw that brief arch where some 12v sparks flew without any real damage done. ANY substained contact would have cooked your goose fast there for sure. It sounds like a loose connector touched ground there and was too brief to damage your supply. It could have also been a 5v fan connector or even lower 3.3v. But most likely it was a loose 12v since it more or less "got your attention"! real fast. oh no crapola what happened?! :P Wake you up time!
