Everything's stretched on my 20" monitor

Hi all

Santa was good enough to leave a HP 2009v 20" widescreen 1600 x 900 monitor in my Christmas stocking, and I am very happy with it. One unfortunate side effect is that all pictures displayed on it seem to stretched horizontally. On my Windows XP, I can't get the display settings to go higher than 1024 x 768. I thought that installing the software that came with the monitor would do the trick, but it soesn't seem to have done anything:(.

Anyone got any helpful suggestions please ... ?

Try updating the video card drivers, the video card is what gives you the resolution you need.

@ johnb35 : I've just updated the video driver to the latest version and still no joy - thinking I might need a new video card:confused::confused::confused:

@ Analizer : I've got a fairly low end PC - quite a few years old new, but still does what I originally bought it for - I don't use my PC for souped up new games, so have a low end graphics card accordingly : VIA S3G Unichrome IGP

Any bright ideas?

That is integrated graphics and with it being so old the latest driver may not support your monitor.
 
Make sure you get a card that is compatible with your machine. What brand and model of computer do you have?
