Excel problem

Windows XP Home SP3, cpu 3.4 ghz , 1 gb ram


Tonight every time I try to access any of my Excel files I get this message.


" This file is not in a recognizable format "



I am running Excel from MS Office 97. Never had any problems before. Anyone have any sugestions?

They've opened fine in Office before? Can you right click the file, go to Open With and then choose Excel (you may have to browse for the executable - it will be somewhere in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\ more than likely...

If that doesn't work, then it's possible that the files are corrupt - are they on external media (floppy, CD or USB drive, etc)? Do you have backups?

If they're on your computer, and the above doesn't work, you may reinstalling Office. You should probably install a newer version too - at least Office 2003, if you can't get Office 2007...
