Experiencing Major PC Problem

Hello,

I had had a lot of trouble with addware, spyware, etc. on my computer, so I got myself a cheap spyware killer from WalMart (stupid, I know). After scanning the C:/ drive for spyware I believe it brought up around 55 files/folders/registration keys. I was stupid enough to select the "Select All" button and then quorentine all of the selected files. Right after it quorentined the files, I noticed that I could not use my start button anymore, when I tried to shutdown my computer. I also tried shutting down from the Ctrl + Alt + Del menu. didn't work. So I had to manually power down the computer.

Later in the day, when I went to power the computer up, I see my standard Dell Splashscreen, which is then supposed to go to the Windows XP Splashscreen; however, it never went to the windows screen. The screen just went black.

After this I tried running a harddrive diagnostic and it came up with "failure: code 7". Is there anyone who would happen to know how I can get my comp up and running again? I thank you all for reading and letting me know what you think I should do.

Try downloading knoppix, running it and getting all your important data of the computer, then reinstalling windows.

The problem is, I cannot get into anything to "run" a program. I have tried inserting the Windows disk hoping that it would autorun somehow, so I can reload it; however, it does nothing. Basically, the only thing I can see when I turn my comp on, before the screen goes black, is my dell splashscreen.

Hi there i see that you are having some major problems. If i were you i would take the hard drive out of the dell and put it into another computer and to SCAN ALL FILES WITH A GOOD VIRUS SCANNER and the ones that you wanna keep in a special folder on that other computer. Then burn them to a cd or dvd. Then since you have your harddrive in another computer just go to my computer and right click on the hard drive (D:/) Most likely unless you have a second hard drive or restore partition on the hard drive already then it may be (E:/) or even (F:/) it will always be the drive after C:/ and always the one before the master cd drive because it is hooked up to PRIMARY IDE. Unless you hook it up to Secondary IDE. Well i think that just about covers it.

when the splash screen is up press the F1-F12 buttons to get to the boot menu and try running it in safe mode. also if you are trying to use boot disks make sure that the drive the disk is in is a boot device before the hard drive.

Sounds like your bios may be corrupt, try taking out the battery and holding in the power button for about 15 seconds and then put the battery back in and start computer!

Make sure that your CD-ROM is set as the first boot priority in your BIOS, otherwise it may just skip past this.
