Experts: Quick Processor Question (noob)

I've got a quick question:

I'm in the market to buy a Socket 775 Intel mobo. One that fits a Celeron D chip and a Core2Duo where I want to upgrade. My question is (and I'm a noob so be nice), what is the difference if I buy say a 3.0ghz+ Celeron D chip compared to a 1.8ghz Core2Duo. Isn't it all about speed?

No it's not all about speed
Celeron is low end processor line.
Core 2 Duo is high end plus it's dual core.
and you will find it more expensive than the celeron.
The Core 2 Duo is far better than the Celeron.

what he means to say is the dual cores have two cores, so that effectively doubles their speed. also, they have smaller construction, so the information coming out of the processor doesnt have to go as fast to reach its destination in good time. (in lamens terms, the road that the info travels is shorter, so it doesnt have to go as fast to reach the destination)
