explorer.exe going to 50+

Just recently explorer.exe process will just randomly go to 50-85 in the task manager and slow everything way down. It can be fixed with a computer restart, but I'd like to find the root of the problem. Any suggestions? thanks.

I found there was spyware that had edited the registry and caused this problem on someones laptop at work.
Try a registry cleaner and see if that works.;)

I regularly run scans and have never had any spyware, malware etc.

Well just if you cannot see it ( or your antivirus ) it doesn't mean it's not there.
I would suggest you to post your HijackThis log, but this is not the place for it this is Operating Systems. So if you urge for help, you can do it and I will examine it for viruses. If you are clean, which I doubt, then search for Hardware problem. Although you are infected, I bet.

...or paste your Hijackthis log here.. it's an easy to use GUI for Hijackthis logs.. if you can't figure it out there, come back and paste it here for someone to take a look at.

only problem with that makmillion is it isnt perfect. things in HJT logs can be misleading/look like good things and be bad. It's best to have a real person check it out.

hey gamemaster - i saw your username on malwareremoval.... that where your learning? i used to go there for a few months. got to hard logs, basically had 1 or 2 left before i graduated but I didn't have the time to finish with college and whatnot.

Nooooo no no no definetely no, don't paste it to HijackThis.De analyzer. We who know how to analyze it often laugh what sh*t that analyzer can write.
Really.

Examined, see the answer, btw here are some answers on your problem... I can't guarantee it will solve it but the guy has the same problem as you do so stick to that site/forum and read what they say. Sooner or later it will be fixed, as it's on a good way.
Good luck!!

That does indeed sound like my problem. It only happens when I play Call of Duty 4 (though not every time) He said that he quit the process and restarted it in the file menu. Could you tell me how to do this so I don't need to do a complete system restart next time? thanks

Please read the whole text and all comments below that. It is not recommended to do it so he searches for another way.
As for that, I know how to kill the process using Task Manager but I don't know how to run it from the file menu *sorry, shy* google for it if you want.
