Explorer not loading

After a reboot, I saw that the desktop was blank. I opened the task manager and saw that most of the processes had started, but explorer.exe had not, so I manually started it, but every time I start it, the desktop comes and then goes away after about seven to eight seconds. I have tried rebooting, system restore, and I found a method on google, something about checking the system files by typing sysscan or something in Start>Run, but nothing has helped. From what I have understood, the explorer shell has become corrupt, so is there any way to repair it?

Thanks.

Have you tried a simple system restore point? That usually can reverse just about anything harmful done to your pc.

Yes

Yes, I've tried System Restore as well; problem is, there are no restore points available before today's date, and I think there isn't any for today's date as well, because even though I keep clicking today's date, nothing happens.

same

Well, you can see that that is the way I start it; but after seven or eight seconds it goes away, and then I have to start it again. I can't keep on doing it.

Can't do that.

For some reason, the computer is not booting in Safe Mode: I have a multi-boot system, and after selecting Win XP Pro, I pressed the F8 key, and selected Safe Mode. At the bottom of the screen, it asked about a .sys file, whether I wanted to cancel loading it; then it asked for another file; I didnt cancel any of them, and they loaded, and then the computer stopped responding. The HD light was blinking continuously at this time. I pressed the reset button, and again went to the Safe Mode, and this time, the screen was filled up with a list of driver that had been loaded, and then it again gave the option of cancelling the loading of those two files, and this time I cancelled them, and again the computer stopped responding, with the HD light blinking. I waited for about three minutes and then reset, and started normally; it didn't ask whether I wanted to boot normally or in Safe Mode, it just booted normally, but then it ran Check Disk. After the computer started, BitDefender and the other apps didnt start, so I logged off and logged in, and this time they all started, but a new window opened, which said 'please wait while Windows configures Dragon Naturally Speaking 9'. I let it run, and it ran for a few minutes, but Comodo was giving messages that some program or the other was trying to install drivers or something, and I didn't allow it, and then the install vanished.

So, how do I get back to Safe Mode? And what was that problem: is it that Dragon Naturally Speaking is in some way responsible?

That happened to me last week. I loaded ubuntu linux via wubi which I am guessing made windows go crazy. It took about 10 reboots before it started working normal again. Firefox took 2 minutes to start. Luckily it is back to normal.

Wow...I can guess that you're loaded with viruses that load like drivers. We should be able to fix it but I first need your ComboFix log if it's possible for you to run a scan.
Download and Run ComboFix
If you already have Combofix, please delete this copy and download it again as it's being updated regularly.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

Combofix should never take more that 20 minutes including the reboot if malware is detected.
If it does, open Task Manager then Processes tab (press ctrl, alt and del at the same time) and end any processes of findstr, find, sed or swreg, then combofix should continue.
If that happened we want to know, and also what process you had to end.

I've already formatted.

Sorry, but all that can't be done now: I have already formatted and reinstalled XP.

I just formatted C:\ and reinstalled XP; then I copied back the boot.ini file that I taken from C:\ earlier, and pasted it back to the new C:\, and it detected one OS: I have a total of three OS: XP Pro in C:, XP Pro in D: (as a precaution, for times like these, when the first XP goes bust), and Ubuntu in E: (which I hardly ever run; I installed it to learn Linux, but haven't begun yet). When I copied the boot.ini file back to C:, it would detect the D:\ XP, but not Ubuntu; then I copied "wubildr" and "wubildr.mbr" to the root C:\, and now all the two previous OS are also booting fine.

I've just used DriveImage XML to make an image of C:\; and I have made a sort of boot disk with P E Builder; I booted from the CD with P E Builder, and found that everything is working, I could even run Mozilla, but the problem is the username and password are not saved in the modem, they are in the computer, and that thing vanished with the previous OS, and I didn't know how to make a new one where I could type in the username and password, so I couldn't connect at that time.

Now, I have to install Dragon Naturally Speaking 9 again; hope nothing goes wrong this time...
