Hey guys. In a recent post i told how i burned my hdd.
Now i am trying to recover from that. I have a sata 2.5 hard drive for a laptop. I want to burn ubuntu to it. I have bought two external cases for sata 2.5 from ebay, from different sellers with good ratings, but none of these work. I have seen other posts in the internet with pople having problems with them

The cases have a usb cable, with two ends on the pc side, so that the hdd gets properly powered. Now i know the hdd is fully functional because my ps3 recognizes it.

When had inserted the cases in the computer (i had tried with two different computers - same results), it either would not get recognized, or it only be seen by the OS, but could not access it. No read, no write no nothing.

So if some other fellow has come across this problem and has a solution, it would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

Whenever I have installed Ubuntu to a hard disk drive I have never done with an external hard drive. What I would do is the following:

1) Find a desktop computer you can use
2) Unplug all hard drives inside the case of this system
3) Hook up the laptop hard drive you want to install Ubuntu on into the after pulling it out of the external hard drive enclosure
4) Install Ubuntu
5) Unplug the newly installed Ubuntu hard drive and reconnect all hard drives inside the case of this system

Also note it is not "burning" when you write to a hard drive. It is "writing." If you burn your hard drive you have destroyed it.

I would also advise you to install version 10.04 or 10.10 of Ubuntu.
