external claims it need formatting

my 3 month old acomdata external hard drive is now telling me that the disk needs formatting , but I don't want to format it because I have some very iomportant stuff on there that I need immediately. I realize the problem may stem from the fact that I got some files from an apple G5 and it may not be compatible. I hope I haven't lost any information.. Any ideas?

Yeah, if you originally loaded files from a Windows system, the problem is probably coming from the fact that the drive is Windows formatted, and you loaded some Apple files on it. So, in order for the computer to work with it again, it needs to format the drive... Had this issue with my iPod, forgot about the incompatability of the two OS's. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I believe that information is already lost...
