external connection types

Hello, sorry if this is a stupid question but.
out of the aval connection types Ethernet/usb/firewire, What type sends the data faster, or does it even matter and is limited to the internal motherboard "bus" speed.

As a general statement, I think this is how the max speeds stack up.

10 gig Ethernet > USB 3 > 1 gig ethernet > Firewire 800 > Firewire 400 > USB 2 > Fast Ethernet 100 Mbit/s > USB 1

in the real world it depends on what you are transferring from or to most of the time. It would be nice to have everything on USB 3, but for an external DVD drive at 24x only reads at ~33mb/s so you would only need a USB 2 or higher connection to use the full speed of the drive. Anything higher would give you no noticeable performance difference.

thank you,
now how would one find out if the ubs is 1,2,or 3?
nevermind it's ubs2 in this unit

You can also check in device manager. You might be able to find them as USB 2 or USB 3 root hub.

try system information programs/accessories/system tools/system information.. it tells you everything about your computer if you dig in it
