External Hard drive keep disappearing

Hi there,

As in the subject. When I unplug it from my laptop (Acer Aspire), uninstall, plug it back in, laptop detects it and install correctly. Just till next reboot / sleep (sometimes manages to see it through a few reboots / sleeps but not often), when it stops seeing it again. I repeat above procedure and it sees it again...

Any idea why this could be happening and how to fix it?

Does it require its own power supply? Its possible that the power settings are allowing it to be powered down when not in use.
 
Yes it does have power supply and its plugged in at all times.

Laptop is on a plug all the time as well actually.
 
Check device manager under disk drives, right click on your external and click on properties, click power management tab and make sure the first box isn't checked "allow computer to turn off device when not in use."
