I run a Plex server from my computer. All the hard drives I'm using are external Western Digital Easy Store , and they have been performing flawlessly for years. As my movie library grows, I keep adding external hard drives, most connected to an Anker USB hub, others directly to the computer. the system has been trouble free, until I bought a 20TB WD hard drive some time ago, the computer crashes every time, after it welcomes you to Windows. I tried it on my other computer, and the hard drive works fine. Thinking the hard drive was too big, I bought 2 more 18tb drives, I already have an 18tb drive in the system, and a clone that works with no problems. to my surprise the computer accepted 1 of the drives, but not both, even if tried them separately. I always keep clone drives of all my movies, and if one gets bad, I have the clone to take its place, so I need the copy drive to work in case my main drive fails. I also checked the "problematic" 18tb drive in my other computer, and it works with no problems as the former 20tb one.
It does not matter if I disconnect all the external drives currently being used in the system, like the 20tb drive before it, one of the new 18tb drives crashes the computer.
I find the problem mind boggling, but maybe someone on the forum has encountered a similar problem and can give me some advice on how to proceed?
Windows 7
