i'm looking to pick up a new external hard-drive. it'd like it to be at least 500 GB and 7200 RPM. should i buy an external, or should i buy an internal and buy an enclosure for it? recommendations...go!

Buy an enclosure for internal drive is not a good choice anymore since has high failure rate.
I recommend Maxtor OneTouch4 Plus, 500GB available in the market and it runs perfectly as my notebook partner.

Here is the one I have it works well I have only had it for 2 weeks now I have already dropped it a couple of times which I don't recommend you try but it still runs fine. The only thing I don't like about it is you have to plug it in to get power plus it didn't come with and sata cable luckily I had one laying around.

Buying a hard drive and putting it in a enclosure is the same as buying and external hard drive. External hard drives are nothing but a regular hard drive in a enclosure so it is really the same thing.

i know they are the same thing, i'm just curious as to what people do these days, and which is the cheaper option.

also, i'd prefer it to be seagate or western digital.

If it´s just storage, I´d look at the green drives in a ventilated descent case , Vantec and roswill are a couple.

If it´s fast transfers, I go for a ventilated case with Esata. and something like a 640 WD black
I´ve even been looking at the dock stations a lot lately . I have so many HD´s that a quick swap system is looking like a good option.
