external hard drive

ok heres the scenerio, i coppied all my music to an external hard drive which i can take over peoples houses and transfer and or just play my music on their computer. it works fine, except the only way to see your songs is in a folder like you would see normal files (list, icon, thumb, etc.) this isnt very good for finding a specific song amungst the thousands of them. so my idea: can i install itunes on my external that will just always be loaded on it and allow me to navigate my music easier? i tried dragging the itunes setup into the external but it just asked me if i wanted to fix or erase the one that was already on my computer. any thoughts?
alternative solutions are welcome, is there a program other than itunes that would do this?
thanks in advance.

well the problem is, unless itunes was installed on that drive with the computer you're trying to use it with, the registry data will not be there, so it won't run the program, might get errors like "missing dll file" or something. If you could find a program that ran as an exe or something maybe that would work, don't know any offhand though. The easiest thing to do would still probably be just to add all the tracks on the external to WMP and go from there.

they should of have been renamed. which makes it much easier. exporting with itunes wouldn't work because what its carrying is data (music files) to the external drive, not executable programs already installed and working.

the best thing i can think of is sorting the songs by date, name, size, modified, etc. in the folder or do a search and point it to the exeternal drive and let it search there.

Hi people, can anybody tell me if it's possible to run a program on an external hard disk ?
Exemple : I copy the owl folder in program files and drag it to another folder on the external disk. Will my program work on another computer ? It's a music producing program.
In fact, I would take the owl folder(C:/Program Files/FLStudio) in "program files", drag it to the external disk(1TO), drag all my sounds and VST's too, and this way be able to make music on any computer that doesn't have the program installed.
Possible ??

Thank you
