External hard drives.

Hi guys,

finally run out of space on the HD but would like to get an external hard drive so as to easily use the same software on my two computers (which are very distant from one another!)

My question is, are external hard drives any good for running software from directly, or should they be used as a simple back/up long term storage device.

The main item being run from it will be imesh with 25/30 GB of songs on it.

Any advice/guidance would be appreciated.

Cheers

you can install software on an external hdd but the software will only run with the pc you installed the software to the externall hdd from

Yeah, most programs store things on your main drive(in the registry and such) I use my external drive for storing my music, photos, and install files...

Also, unless it has a fast connection (firewire) the software will run kinda slow/laggy. I would just recommend putting backup/storage on it.
