External Hard Drives

I want an external Hard Drive and I can't decide between the Lacie D2 Triple Interface, or the Maxtor Onetouch II. The LaCie has Firewire 800, but the Maxtor seems to have more features.

I'm running Win 2kPro, 512 DDR, 80 Gig HDD, firewire 400/800 and USB 2.0. I plan on storing a backup of my main drive and a bunch of video/massive image files on it. I might find occasion to want to switch between PC and Mac computers at school, can I do that without reformatting the drive?

I would appreciate any advice, or if anyone's used them before.
 
not having much knowledge of macs I may be wrong but I'd say swapping the HDD between a PC and Mac without reformating will not work
