External HD copy problem

ok im trying to copy something thats 4 gigs to my external hd. the external hd has like 390 gigs left open but it says there is not enough disk space. any ideas?

what filesystem is the external hd?

your ext hd needs to be ntfs to save large files

is there a way to change it to ntfs w/0 deleting whats on it?

even then i would backup 1st.
you could always create a directory on the primary called backup.
Copy from the usb and drop in the backup directory.
