I have a Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus 750G External Hard Drive. It worked fine at home and then one day i discovered that it would not work anymore. I learned that the wrong power adapter was used at one point and it caused a surge to the Hard Drive. My questions are; 1. Is there an accessory that anyone knows of that i can purchase to fix the problem? 2. Is the information stored on the Hard Drive still good? 3. Is there a site that can help me? 4. Is there a way to get the information off of the maxtor?

Thanks for your time, i appreciate your assistance.

Remove the drive from the maxtor case.
It should be a standard 3.5 PATA or SATA drive.
If it's a PATA drive, shut down the PC, disconnect your optical drive and use it's connections to plug the hard drive into your PC. Boot the PC, wait for it to finish finding the drive, go into My Computer, and transfer away.
If it's a SATA drive, find a spare SATA cable and plug it into any available SATA port. Be sure to connect power to the drive. Boot the PC, wait for it to find the drive, go to My Computer, and transfer away.
If none of the above works, meaning the motherboard or Windows can't find the drive, or you get errors trying to transfer, then the drive is dead.
There is some professional services available, but they usually cost money.

Good luck!
