I built a external HD through a cheap little kit that i piced up from best buy. The hard drive inside is was from my old desktop; Its a samgsum(not spelled properly) 160 gig 7.2k rpm, 8mb of cache. Its also hooked up to a dell laptop via USB 2.0. The problem is when i attpemt to copy files to a differnt location i get this message;

I dont know how to fix this, i have tried everything that i know, so now i need your help.

Thanks,

Dmw.

That error means that the data that is being transferred is corrupted.

Make sure your hard drive and cable are OK. Use Chkdsk or Scan disk to do a full hard drive scan. (A faulty IDE cable commonly causes CRC problems).

You could try taking the hard disk out of the caddy, and plugging it directly into a computer. It might help, worth a shot although it'll void the warranty so be careful.

My USB hdd wouldn't power up, its only a few months old but I took it apart and shoved it in my PC. Still works fine, wouldn't trust anyone with my data! Too much to lose.

thanks, guys im gonna check the connections, im guessng that its a fualty usb cable.. im gonna take it all apart today and check all the other connections; after finals.. =(((( lol thanks anyways.
