External HD two computers

This seems very confusing to me mabye it'll be easier for one of you. I have both a desktop and a laptop. I do alot of video editing and it takes up alot of space. I want to get a external hard drive. I was wondering if their is a certian kind i will need? I want to be able to plug in the hard drive to which ever computer im using.

I think that you would want like a big jump drive. How big do you want it to be? There are also IDE-USB converters that make internal hdds into external

Or, you could just network them, then you could store form either computer onto either computer

Im looking for 100 gigs and over. four mins of video takes up about 3 gigs of space.I travel with the laptop so would networking still work? also im not sure how having another hd works. if i was running a program on my computer could i load and save data from the other hard drive?

Of course you could use an external usb which should fit the bill. I do like the External exclosures that will let you turn your internal IDE/ Sata HD's into external usb drives as it's usualy cheaper to do so.

If you need more drive space you should probably buy an external USB HDD or an external enclosure and a regular HDD. Then you can switch the drive back and forth between the computers. If you don't need the extra space you can network the two computers (when they are together) and transfer/read/write files to whichever drive you want. Actually, you might want to setup a network anyway; it does come in handy and its cheap and fairly easy to do.
