external hd ??

i have the hd out of my old laptop w/ xp on it in a rocketfish enclosure,i am trying to recover the files on the drive but everytime i plug the drive into my new laptop running vista, i am able to go to my computer but when i open the laptop will freeze until i unplug the hd. any suggestions?? thanks for the help

Have you tried it on another PC?
Maybe it's just another vista compatibility issue?

Windows got read error from the harddisk, or should I say the harddisk is dying...

if it is dying, is there anyway to get the files off the drive??
