External HDD not seen

Hi,

I have a smart TV which I have an external hard drive attached to and before I used it I formatted it to the relevent format. For some reason when I plug this HDD into my laptop I cannot see it at all. It is not in explorer and you cant see it anywhere. When it is plugged in you can see it in the bottom right corner but it wont open.

Any ideas??

What format is it in? Most likely windows can't see the drive because of it. Look in disk management and you should be able to see the drive.
 
NTFS from what I remember. You can see th drive but it has no letter assigned to it and you cant assign it a letter either. It has always worked and for some reason it has just stopped..
 
Is there any data on this drive? You can always reformat the drive and see what happens.
