External HDD problem I think..

Okay, I have a 300gb maxtor HDD with a 16mb buffer, and 7200rpm..

The problem I'm having is I have a little over 100 gigs of stuff on it, all my music, movies, random flash files etc...
when I open itunes, it will begin to play the song fine,. about 3 seconds later, it will start to sound as if it is skipping, I thought that it was itunes 7 so i got rid of the POS and got itunes 6.0.5 (the last 6 version) and tried that, still it does it, is there something wrong with my hdd maybe or is it itunes, thanks for any suggestions

are you using ant codec pack they can sometimes cause problems

Does the same happen when the music is played from your HDD?

As meanman said, codec packs can cause interference with the way itunes plays music. Try Windows Media Player to see if it works and then we can further isolate this problem

well with the .mp3 files, it works on windows media player, but it won't play mp4, becuase it's thats sings that I imported, straight into itunes.

okay, i found out that it doesn't skip if it isn't minimized... I dunno what that says, maybe sound card or something?
