External > Internal conversion, problem with drive

So, I cracked open a non-functioning 250 Seagate Freeagent Desktop to hopefully fix by plugging it into my computer via a SATA cable. I successfully extracted the drive, but when I plugged it into the computer, I had a couple problems.

Problem the first, my computer took forever to boot up! It seemed like it was getting stuck at the Windows 7 "Starting Windows..." screen, with the four lights. However, it wasn't stuck, it was just progressing very slowly through it. After it finally started up, my desktop took a while to load all of the shortcut icons. Now that it is loaded, it is running fine.

Problem the second, my computer can't find the hard drive. It doesn't show up at all on the "Computer" screen.

Everything is plugged in, as far as I can tell. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Was there a step that I should have taken to change the Barracuda hard drive that was in the external hard drive into a usable internal one?

The drive is bad and therefor is causing issues starting your computer with it attached. And thats why the drive isn't being found. Doesn't sound like you will be able to fix this drive.

That's such a shame. I mean, I don't need the extra space, but it would have been nice to have a seperate drive to do stuff with. Ah well. Thanks for the input.
